I wanted to read this one because I saw that a movie based on the book, starring Brad Pitt, is due to hit the theaters soon. The movie looked fun and I wanted to read the book first.

At the end, I decided that watching the movie is the way to go. The reason: this book is slow for a thriller! It's 400 pages long. There are a lot of flashbacks as characters reflect upon their pasts in order to give the reader more information. Sometimes it feels like too much information and a bit repetitive to boot.

The author is funny, though! It's hard to get that across in translation, but this book succeeds. The characters are quirky too and it's interesting to see the book switch perspectives as different character get different bits of information. No one has all the information they need and they are all working at cross purposes- nicely designed plot.

I'm having a problem getting impatient with books, though, and this one didn't move along fast enough for me. A two hour movie on this should be about right!

Oh my god! I wish the movie kept all the quirk of the characters. Granted several (like Lemon) were really well made and casted but there were some (Like the Prince) that should’ve stayed the same. Also playing out the real death of the big bad added for the Movie effect but the true tale followed the circumstance of luck more than the actual story which does cause several people to dislike the book. The prince is a complete fucking psycho and I’m upset with the movie casting in the end because holy shit was this character a true evil. Kimura’s parents are a bad ass and I wish the story swapping existed in the movie but the book was phenomenal to in so many way. Highly recommend it!
