Well written, though I enjoyed the movie more. The pace of the book was real-time, which made it quite slow. I liked the literary references throughout. The Prince character was a bit sadistic for my taste and I found myself skimming those chapters (clearly based on the Chief character in Mishima's The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With the Sea).
