Sanctimonious, repetitive, and dull. I thought it would be more than just her repeating the same things about her own beliefs over and over.

I grew up in a different tradition than Sarah Bessey, but so much of her thoughts mirror mine. She is a vivid storyteller - sharing her story in a way that captivates you. The whole time I was reading, I felt as though she and I were sharing coffee together, sharing our stories about church and Jesus - the good, the bad, the ugly as well as the good, powerful, and beautiful.
I can't identify with the struggles she has faced growing up evangelical, but I absolutely identify with the struggle to find a place within your own mother church. Although I grew up - and still attend - a more traditional, liturgical, "high" church - I found that I have had the opposite side of her struggles with her own tradition.
I love her encouraging words - her challenging words - her way of empowering disciples to really wrestle with our traditions and really OWN our faith. Her way of reminding us that we ARE enough - no matter what we are called to do. Her way of challenging us to BE the Kingdom of God - in our right now lives.
This book is beautifully written. Well done Sarah Bessey, well done.

Reading this book is like sitting down for a cuppa tea with an old friend. Sarah's words captivated my heart and moved my spirit. I especially appreciated the chapter and the evangelical hero complex. As a preachers wife, I have asked many of the same questions Sarah poses. Her articulation of calling and vocation and living life fully where we are refreshes my soul and gives me hope. A beautiful book. Highly recommend!

Sure, there are parts of this i might not agree with, but it was oxygen to my wandering soul and wondering heart and mind.

Words of encouragement, but nothing from her story of detangling her personal faith
