This book was a good blend of the truth about the photograph from 1948 and a story developed into this novel. A fast-paced read that tugs at your heart strings. The mother of the children, Geraldine, is portrayed well in this book. In real life, she's pretty much a monster. I'm a little surprised the author took that route, but I think she was trying to show compassion for all the hardships that women went through back in those days.
The writing is solid and holds your attention. The pace is very good. You don't feel like the story drags at all.
