I found this easy to read. I read it while in Brazil and liked that it was set here and written by a Brazilian-American author, with many references to food I was eating, places I was going, and aspects of the culture that were familiar. That made for an enjoyable and timely read. The story itself was kind of forgettable and the main character was quite unlikeable so that knocked it down a star.

A very character driven book written as a long letter/story that was very intriguing the entire way through. I eventually grew to love all the major characters (or at least empathize with them) and I really liked learning about them specifically through Linda's retelling.
I was especially drawn to the ways in which the main character and narrator, Linda, was able to grow. I was able to see even more evidence of this growth as I actually think Linda's writing gets much more lyrical as the story progresses:
"our collective experience should shape how history is remembered. I want my story to be remembered by how I evolved not only for myself, but for the important people in my life."
I am very much looking forward to whatever Gabriella Burnham writes next!
