In my opinion, Fourth Wing is a very successful fantasy romance in which the fantasy plot and the romance are balanced and both drive the story forward. I like many of the characters and the communication between them. In particular, Violet's honesty and openness about her feelings is a welcome change. The pacing of the romance feels right to me, and I like how the two main characters develop together. I also like that the political themes only pick up speed in the second half of the book, so there is enough time at the beginning for worldbuilding and to experience the training of the dragon riders. The plot twists at the end really surprised me when I first read it. I highly recommend this book as an excellent example of the genre.
