I can’t pretend to say I wasn’t invested in this book, I listened to 21 hours of audio in 4 days. That being said, some of the dialogue and narrative phrases were so cringe I found myself actively wincing.
4.5 stars for me. Loved this book but found myself getting confused at some points. The ending gave me chills!

This book shows that your closest friends can become your enemy and the other way around. Love the build up. Maybe a little to slow pace for me. But it touched my heart! Lovable characters and amaizing story.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, but a few parts annoyed me and almost made me give up on the series. One thing that bothered me was how often it was talked about that the dragon and riders have such a deep bond that they can't live without each other. Still, they barely show anything about it and always prioritize romantic relationships over the rider and dragon ones. Also, the amount of romance feels a little overwhelming at times. I get that this is a romance novel, but after reading over three chapters about just sex, I almost gave up on the series. During this time, Violet didn't contact her dragons, and it felt off.
Another thing that bothered me was whenever Violet talked Tarin she seemed annoyed or agitated with him. She never has a happy moment with him, and it only seems like she cares about him when he is about to die or needs his help, but with Andrea, she seems to be more connected and bonded with her and even flat out says she likes Andrea more than Tarin. I know she's joking when she says it, but it is pretty evident that she does. I wish this book went into more world-building.
I don't dislike the series, but I would not recommend it as a fantasy/thriller. Almost all the twists and surprises are foreshadowed. This seems like a book where the main focus is romance while the story gets dragged behind as an afterthought.

If tropes were currency, this book would cause inflation.
I devoured this book. Great world building, relationship building, and stakes. Excellent.
Well. Done.
Rebecca Yarros had me hooked from the moment I entered Basgiath War College. I have not been this consumed by a book in such a long time. I literally felt like I was there with the characters through the entire story. The main characters and their friends became my friends, their anxieties became my anxieties and their losses broke me like it did them.
Then, just when I thought things couldn’t get crazier or better, Rebecca Yarros gave us that cliffhanger. Im still soaring while mending my broken heart. This book definitely took me on a wild emotional rollercoaster that I can’t wait to get back on when the next book comes out!
Fourth Wing definitely lived up to the hype!
