Love, Love, Love again!
But I have to say, the scene in the tunnels at the end of 'Killers of the Dawn' gets me every single time! Damn you Mr Shan, damn you!
5 out of 5 stars!

Torture is cool, there are people who are pure evil, and what the hell is the age group that these books are geared towards? I have always been baffled by the surprising level of senseless violence in them, but confronting reluctant readers who love action-packed books which are violent and have high stakes (and this is kind of who I'm guessing they're for?) that also condone torture and have the mentor figure saying that there are people who have been born evil just makes it worse. Entertaining, yes, and I am going to read the last instalment of this series, but I will definitely NOT add them to our classroom library after all.

This is a truly wonderful series and I seriously recommend picking them up.

Each of the books are pretty short, so going for these collections of three stories you’re getting much better value for your money and much more fun with each book.

If you’re a vampire fan, if you want something other than vampire romance, jump on this now!

When I was younger, I devoured these novels as quickly as I could get my hands on them! Looking back at the books with a more critical eye, they don't hold up as well. I loved Darren Shan's flair for the dramatic, he really can tell a story, but his writing style is not very sophisticated. Of course, these are meant for a younger audience. I rate Mr. Shan's writing mostly on what my inner Middle-Schooler thought, but I refrain from five stars as a nod to current me. Overall, I would encourage 5th grade- 9th grade readers to dive into these novels!
