i hated the entire third act breakup scenario. It didnt fit in with the rest of the book and honestly the "lets take it slow now" resolution/get back together felt clunky

gaaaah, this was so incredibly unexpectedly GOOD. and WHOLESOME. and all FLUFFY and ADORABLE. and everything good hormones produce??

the romance was so soooft. i loved the entire arc of the relationship. from reluctant acquaintance and almost animosity to tentative friendship to roommates and chess playing duo to boyfriends?? amazing. the way they were so domestic and cozy and the definition of comfort?? i can only keysmash about it gehebvegev and then the conflict wasn't even terrible (tho it needed a little work imo) tho their lack of communicatio was frustrating but the angst and the heartarche all hit the right places, due to which, the resulting making-up and reconciliatory scenes were even almost swallowed me whole.

and there wasn't even a chance of monotony bc all the various things that were happening sub-plot wise. the hockey plays, the shady dealings, the trades. seriously, the angst was angsting. but the teammate bondings and the way both of them had personal individual growth...i love them a lot.

Really enjoyed both books, I just want more! I feel like Nico and Ryan's story isn't over, and it was nice to see Gabe and Dante pop up - I really would read anything in this story world!

Enjoyable, charming characters - not just the main characters (Nico and Ryan) but also the side characters. I wish the losing team/betting scandal had been better explained (how does it work? how did the owners not notice?). There's a scene where Nico meets a woman at the arena and gives her directions that is never explained (is she complicit in the scandal? one of the investigators? just a random person?). Overall, I liked this and will continue to read this series (which I'm reading backwards for some reason).
