The author seems to try too hard to put historical background into the book and as a result her heroine comes off as rather flighty. She supposedly being chased by two men but she frequently stops to go sightseeing and/or get lost in the scenery.

Still, the book is a quick read with a few good comedic parts. Definitely a 'caper' mystery, if a somewhat shallow one.

Meh. Stick with Amelia Peabody.

I’ve been reading Elizabeth Peters’ books since I was in high school, and on into the next several decades. While I adored Peabody and Emerson, I was the biggest fan of her Vicky Bliss series. This book was her first and meant to be a stand-alone, (at least for a time). I remember how deliriously happy I was when I finally read it and discovered that the villain of the book is Vicky Bliss’s love interest throughout most of the series, Dear cousin John. It holds up a little better than most of these sorts of books do from the 60s.

Popsugar24: #13 - A book originally published under a pen name (Barbara Metz is her actual name. Her children were Elizabeth and Peter)

It was a delightful romp through Cornwall, with the main characters enjoying witty banter as they tried to solve the mystery of why the man in the mustache was after the FMC. It was a little hard at times to follow the flow as it would jump from one scene to the next, but if you like Elizabeth Peters you will probably forgive it for any shortcoming. I took off one star because at times it was a little confusing, and it ended abruptly.

Jessica has ben invited to visit her grandfather in England. However, someone trys to walk off with her luggage and later accosts her in the Salisbury Cathedral. Pure farce and laugh out loud scenes follow (bus).

I do like Peter's portrayal of relationships and also sort of agree with her that for successful relationships you need to be able to argue and have equal give and take.
