I was left with quite a few unanswered questions. The character development of Lacey May and the sisters was lacking. What was the purpose of the sisters, the story would have flowed without them included. Why did Gee turn out to be the way he is, as an adult? The reasons given didn’t add up. What the heck happened to the father?

This novel could have been a 4-5 stars, if the characters were developed, more.

I did enjoy the premise of this story, and the beginning opened my eyes to a more first hand view of racism. I did like how this book was based around social issues, but some issues were just thrown in. For example, there was a paragraph on global warming, which I agree is real and is a problem, but it felt so out of place and didn't contribute to the story. I was disappointed to see how Gee turned out, but I still enjoyed all the character development. Not every character is going to turn out good, just as the characters who seem terrible could turn out to see the error of their own ways.

contemporary fiction is wild because it’s just like “here are these people. they have problems” and then it ends

also lacey may 10000000% would’ve been a trump supporter

A very solid book with a compelling plot, however the majority of it felt too squished into the last third of the book and the ending felt abrupt.
