This book was a challenging but rewarding read.
Steven’s tireless, heartbreaking, and noble pursuit of finding who he is made him easily loveable, despite not liking him much at times.
Steven is a character who feels very real and very dear to me. I’ll be thinking about this story and its message for a long time.

I had braced myself for a more difficult read but I really enjoyed this. Stuck between a 4/5 star. I definitely think this book will give even more when I will read it again at some point.
I got a notion that 38 would be the year I try Ulysses. After reading up about it, this was the obvious starting point and I am glad I did.

I must be getting more fucked in the head because I yearned for this book

do i rate based off of how good the book is (5 stars) or how much i enjoyed it (3 stars)? i honestly think a LOT of the literary references/latin conversations went over my head and because of that i missed a crucial part of the story. i loved how stephen grew up through the book and how his writing became more and more mature. i also love how he found himself and his dislike of religion at the end of the book. at times though it dragged and i just wasn’t too into it. relatable but also just eh at times
