This book is like an 8 year old girl's dream. Moon princesses, a dreamy secret boyfriend, unicorns, pet lions, dogs, and a rabbit, lovely dresses, tea parties, and villainous men who change their ways thanks to the heroine's actions? If you like all that, you'll like this! Frankly, it was all too much for me. I was never really a pony-girl, but I probably would have liked this book when I was 8.

JK Rowling has said that she's simply adored this book. I can actually see how she would be inspired by it. There are beautiful scenes with mountainous amounts of food. It reminds me so much of the magical feasts of Hogwarts and of Molly Weasley's kitchen. This is one of the things I actually liked about the book. The meals are that out of a fairy tale.

A whimsical and creative piece of literature that reads like a classic (it is a classic, isn't it?), this book is sweet and satisfying. The Merryweather family is an interesting one, and I am glad I got to know them better.

This book offers a wellspring of joy that never runs dry and a true sense of wonder in the world. And I dearly love happy endings.

Goudge's writing is absolutely beautiful. The storyline itself, however, is a bit dull.
