Wickedly lovely. It was absolutely astounding. Though I do "ship", in fangirl/fanboy terms, Will and Tessa, and very much believe that they should be together, I absolutely loved and adored this book. Good for Jem, I suppose, being engaged to Tessa. I, in my own view, strongly believe Tessa and Will shall end up together, but this is not about how I wish the book to have been written. And, on a positive note, the "shippers" of Will and Tessa have a reasong to read on, as, although the engagement was made clear, there were no immediate plans for a wedding, and anything could happen.(I personally was secretly hoping and crossing my fingers for something to happen to Jem, even though I would die if something did!) And this book! I think I may have died over and over again! The web of mystery, even for those of whom are not fond of this book, should be enough to have them clutching their seats and waiting to find out what happens next. The mystery if Tessa's existence alone should be enough! And Jessie and Nate?! Horrible, yet somehow perfect. I am biting my lips for more. The new cast of characters; I found myself loving each and every one of them, particularly Woolsey Scott. They each had a very distinct flavor. I also fould myself loving the new and improved, less guarded William Herondale. The moments of vulnerability were a breath of fresh air. I felt my heart break, shatter, for him in the end. And Charlotte and Henry, knowing, at last, how much each cares for the other! And the BABY?!?! I almost died. Cecily, in the end, showing up. That, I think, made me stop breathing for a few moments. And even if you don't agree with MY personal view, here are my closing words, and I know I am being biased, and I know this isn't an area to flout your beliefs and your loyalties, I say, "Long live Will and Tessa!" Just kidding. Sort of. Magnificent book though.(Is it weird that now, after reading it, I think with a British accent, although I'm American? I don't speak with it, just involuntarily in my thoughts. I suppose that is the effect of reading an amazing book set in London, and loving it too much!)

This installment definitely had me more interested than the first one. I am far more invested in the romance aspect than the overall “big bad” of the story though, but I’m feeling much more connected to the characters with this one.

This series continues to be popcorn. The plotting drives me mad, so I try not to think about it. Still wish I could go straight to book three right now.
The narrators change from book one, which is disorienting. Luckily Heather Lind is very good at character voices, and Ed Westwick reminds me of Steve West in positive ways. However, I do not understand the reasoning behind two narrators in this book. It's not structured around two alternating perspectives, and the choice of who narrates which section is occasionally distracting.

Cassie Clare, I am b r o k e n.
This is definitely one of my new all time favourites. The pacing, characterisation and plot was just fantastic. Will Herondale is fully responsible for my impossible standards... but I'm okay with that. He was definitely my favourite character, with Tessa and Sophie as close seconds. My hurt physically hurt reading about how he pushed everyone away for fear of the consequences and I was SOBBING! This book probably has the only love triangle which I have ever loved. Although I prefer Will, Jem was so sweet and just an absolute cinnamon roll. But the main reason I preferred Will is because he was flawed and was more complex and the mystery surrounding his parents, the pyxis and the way he acts to others was more interesting than a simple nice guy. Having said that, I still appreciate Jem.
Also can we talk about the friendship between Will and Jem?? Their moments together, just unabashedly expressing how much they loved each other was so amazing and Cassie Clare really said fuck toxic masculinity and let her male characters express real emotion. Soooo good and heartbreaking at the same time.
' [Jem to Will] "If I was harsh to you, it was because I cannot bear to see you treat yourself as if you are worth nothing. Whatever part you might act to the contrary, I see you as you really are, my blood brother. Not just better than you pretend to be, but better than most people could hope to be." He placed a hand on Will's shoulder, gently. "You are worth everything, Will." '
They truly are platonic soulmates and I was just in love with the portrayal of such a healthy m/m friendship between two straight guys. It was p e r f e c t i o n!
TESSA AND WILL!!!!
Also, Henry must be protected at all costs. Not to be dramatic, but he could throat punch me and I'd say thank you.
'Henry looked bewilderedly from Will to tessa. "What is it? What have I done wrong?" Tessa sighed.
"Nothing, Henry. It's just- I think Charlotte wanted you to come with her."
"Then why didn't she say so?" Henry's eyes were mournful. His joy over his eggs and inventions seemed to have vanished.

This is a good sequel, but I think I prefer the first book more. No disrespect to the sequel at all, but the main plot just didn't pull me in like the first one did. However, just like before the character relationships are still fun and interesting to read and it still manages to hold your interest. Nicely done.
