It may be a children's classic, but it's definitely weird. I always thought I loved nonsense literature, but I found out it's not really my thing.

Still - there's no arguing the excellent writing, and the very believable character of Alice. She is every bit a precocious child, and acts, thinks, and speaks like one. She reminds me of me as a child, and the dream world I lived in as a kid. Her fantastical imaginings, conversations, and scenarios are all ones I might have had, but didn't. Mine had a lot more fairies, and a lot less bloodthirsty queens.

No criticism for the book, my rating is based purely on personal taste, and my genuine feelings about it. That's all.

I didn't find the annotations nearly as helpful or entertaining as I was hoping. I guess I was looking for more insight into Carroll's world, like the information I found in this New York Times article. A lot of the notes delved into derivative works, which I wasn't personally interested in, or devoted several paragraphs to explaining concepts that only seemed tangentially related to the story. The annotations could really use an update as well. I do feel as though I learned more about the Alice books by reading this, but I just did not enjoy the work as much as I did [b: The Annotated Brothers Grimm|22914|The Annotated Brothers Grimm (Annotated Books)|Jacob Grimm|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1386925097s/22914.jpg|21748871].
