Some of Ito's more lofty horrors dont connect to me. I didn't feel fear, or even dread. I think if this was a written story rather than a manga I may have been able to connect better

This was my very first glimpse into the twisted mind of Junji ito and his stories, and let me say, I am genuinely amazed by his originality and skill. The concept of been asleep for thousands of years to wake-up and realize just one night has passed by, and not being able to control it, is horrifying.

Still, I don't know what, but something was missing on this one for me. Maybe it was because it's pretty short. Still, I'm more than willing to read some of his others works in the near future.

This is the most terrifying Junji Ito short story in my opinion. Mostly because it tackles my biggest fears: sleep, eternal suffering, getting old, and death.

Sleeping is already terrifying. Your most vulnerable state, as you’re unconscious and unprotected. But then you have the dreams.

Just the idea of having a dream that is thousands of years long where you are eternally suffering is horrifying. Despite how you’ve been sleeping for only eight hours, you have been suffering for millions of years. And you can’t control the dreams, you just have to suffer.

And fun fact: you age with your dreams. Your dream took place for a hundred years? Well now you’ve aged a hundred years.
By the time your dream takes place for a million years, you’re going to look like the baby from Eraserhead.

Every time I read this, I just get unnerved and uncomfortable. It sticks in my mind even after reading it. The first time I read this story, ironically, I couldn’t sleep.

I was terrified I would have A Long Dream.

This isn't my favorite short of Ito's. I think that the concept is cool, but a bit rushed. I also don't fully follow or believe the doctor's decisions or motivation the way I do with other characters in other shorts similar. Because of this I couldn't really suspend my belief the way I usually do.
