I'm giving it a strongly biased 5 stars, because I really do love the Middle Earth universe and Andy Serkis does an absolutely outstanding job narrating. He's a master of voices, and he's able to capture so many characters so distinctly that, even without the character name cues, I can often guess correctly at who's speaking already. I'm looking forward to listening to him narrate the Lord of the Rings books as well. I've read all of them (and The Hobbit) already, but it's been a while, and I can't wait to relive those too with him narrating.

Revisiting this series after a while! Tolkien’s world building is incredible, with a mix of loveable characters and an adventure of turns and twists. Was gifted this book series by my uncle as a kid, and only recently found out the copies were my mum’s from the 80’s! Makes me cherish them even more now :0)

The hobbit is such a cosy adventure story. The audiobook read by Andy Serkis was one of the finest I've listened to and he was perfect for it especially since we got to listen to his own character, Gollum. Little Bilbo was so adorable and I loved his dialogue and thoughts. The illustrations were also useful in picturing how middle earth looked. I really like how Tolkien wrote this for his children as it proves to be a great story for all ages. I find it astonishing that this was published in the 1930s yet it's still read and loved today. Tolkien truly is a master storyteller.
