What an emotional rollercoaster. Nera and Kai’s story pulled at all the heartstrings. Nera was a Mafia Princess and was stuck living a life that fit her family’s image. People only befriended her or tried to date her because of who she was and the power her name held. To forge her own path she was going to college and working a a veterinarian assistant much to her father's displeasure. Nera had such a good heart and pure intentions, always wanting to help those in need; whether animal or human.
We are introduced to Kai when Sergei and Az went on a rescue mission to find him at the end of Book 7 Burned Dreams. My heart broke for Kai during this entire book. Much like Sergei and Az; Kai was part of a secret military operative where he was trained to be a killer. Left as an illiterate orphan to drug addict parents Kai’s life started on the wrong path. Now as a military trained assassin he is ruthless, deadly, numb and pretty much dead inside. He literally doesn't care about living or dying until the day fate put him in Nera’s path.
Nera and Kai’s romance was the slowest of burns. Nera being an absolute sweetheart and Kai is pretty much Satan incarnate but the goodness he saw in Nera gave him a new perspective on life. Kai was like a moth to Nera’s flame. Her protector, her Stalker her Secret Admirer. Kai couldn't understand how someone so good could see anything worth saving in him.
Nera and Kai had a lot of uphill battles and when his darkest sin results in him fleeing; he knew all hope was gone but Nera wasn't your average weak damsel. Taking on the mantle of Domme after the death of her father made her a force to be reckoned with. New attitude, broken heart, thick skin made Nera a fierce powerhouse.
Separation makes the heart grow fonder. In this case, separation made Kai a feral beast and an overly possessive man. When he is faced with a reminder of his and Nera’s time together, he knows that life as he knew it would never be the same and despite all that they have been through over the years he knew without a shadow of doubt Nera was his endgame and he would not let her slip through his fingers again.
The reunion between Kai, Sergei and Az was absolutely priceless. 3 psychopaths coming together in the name of love and it was EPIC. I’m looking forward to seeing what's next in the Perfectly Imperfect series

I wasn’t feeling as much chemistry between the characters as I like to in romance books and smut didn’t really do anything for me.

My favorite in the series thus far, I cannot believe the amount of times I laughed out loud paired with actual horror at the trauma background. It ended up being so sweet and innocent with that layer of darkness happening underneath and just perfect.
