Another solid entry in one of my fave series.
I enjoyed the longer slow burn of this book compared with some of the others in the series.
If I'm being honest I couldn't give a shit about Nera's story before reading this book the only thing that got me excited was some of the fan art and the fact Ms Neva Altaj seems to never miss (apart from Ruined Secrets but I like to pretend that book doesn't exist).
I really enjoyed having the FMC be in more of a power position and having him be a support when and where she needed.
I wish we had longer of them towards the end as it seemed a touch rushed considering such a slow build up then all of a sudden they're settled.
*Small foot note I loved the long hair. Petition to have more French plait kings😍

this book made me cry but it also made me laugh so so so hard. nera was very sweet and strong. kai was everything. he is lowkey a sociopath but he has valid reasons to be one. due to all the hardships he endured as a child, when nera shows him kindness he is captivated and enchanted by her. he stalks her to an extreme degree but he does so in order to protect her and because she is the daughter of a mafia boss, danger is very present in her life.
the book was quite slow and the first half made me want to quit because i predict the heartache. but the majority of the second half of the book was lighthearted and so funny. i had to bite down on my hand to keep from hysterically cackling at 5 am because i started this book around 12 am and i decided finishing the book was a bigger priority than sleeping.
this book was incredible and although it was slow, the ending was amazing.

I don't think ive cried so hard reading a mafia romance, but leave it to Neva to make that happen. First of all nobody stood on business like Kai did. From the moment he meets Nera, he does all he can to keep that semblance of happiness in his life. Even though he doest know right off the bat what that is, because he's never been shown anything other than pain. This book was like one big edging session because they'll come together and immediately after they are pulled apart. Every part of this book was beautiful and I love anytime Neva brings Sergei, and Alessandro together.

Some of my reactions while I was reading darkest sins BUT skip to the end to read my overall thoughts:
- Oh I’ve been WAITING for this one!!! Not only we are getting the unhinged Kai but Nera who is the only woman raining a mafia family!? I am READYYYY
- TIGER CUB!!! Oh if you remember the epilogue of a certain previous book this will make you scream (or it should)
- “Reckless I might be, but stupid I am not” is probably one of my favorite lines
- I just love an explosive meet cute and nothing says explosive more than trying to save a dying man at god knows what hour in the night for both of you to end up drawing your guns at each other ✨slay✨
- Is Kai going to take place for most crazy???
- Also my girl Nera seriously is crazy too but what a power house to just save his life and take out a bullet out of his leg in a vet clinic
- No, cause I also don’t understand why people run for fun, Kai
- This man really said no second chances, let me make sure Nera aka my tiger cub is safe cause love 🥰
- An eldest daughter doing everything in her power to make her younger sister have a good time and laugh is very very eldest daughter
- It’s actually so so interesting to see how unfamiliar Kai is with human interaction and behaviour
- Yeah totally makes sense to cut your arm so you can interact with your girl and she can give you stitches
- Who is Todd? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 not him thinking it’s a man and not a stuff toy
- Kai is killing me right now, this man is going on a hunt at three am FOR PARSLEY!!! Cause she mentioned that she may have dried it out and may need to pick some up when she has time!!! If he wanted to, he would, that’s all I’m saying
- Knowing Kai feels like his hair is the only thing he owes makes so much sense why he likes to keep it long
- Okay knowing that Kruger drugged Kai when he was a kid to test him (like before age 12) is actually so fucked up. I knew operation ZERO was bad but this is SOOOOOO much worst than I ever thought
- This man needs to find new way to go and talk to Nera cause he is gonna end up looking like actually Frankenstein with the amount of cuts he gives himself
- I knew knew Kai’s darkest sun would be bad but I was not expecting this AT ALL
- Okay these revelations regarding the Boston casa nostra are actually mind blowing but INCREDIBLE — I am so here for how the plot is unraveling

But know that this is my second fave (because no one will top Sergei and Angelina who are both standing in no 1 place) — I mean Kai really gave daddy tore a run for his money so he has been knocked down to third place, WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT!?
Overall, I think this is such an excellent book because the dynamic between Nera and Kai is superb BUT the plot??? Nera being a power house??? Kai being the k!ller and trying to understand emotions??? It was just magnifique. Seriously the book HAD 👏🏼 IT 👏🏼 ALL 👏🏼
The mafia plot was so so so well done, we are brought back our favorite characters, we see how the Boston casa nostra is being run by a woman 👀, and honestly the ending was just a boiling point to see what happens next to this part of Casa Nostra cause 🤯
Character wise, Nera seriously amazed me with how resilient and determined she was. Kai really reminded me of my favorite parts of Sergei and I understand why they are “friends” (I say “friends” because, well…. It’s them and they have no concept of what friendship means not what emotions are JAJAJAJA) but he was something else. His protective streak? His obsession with Nera? I mean the man just would cut himself so Nera could take care of him, touch him and be able to spend time around her. He is the DEFINITION OF ✨if he wanted to, he would ✨
AND THEIR CHEMISTRY WAS OFF THE CHARTS!!!!
