I’ll admit that I was not that excited for this book, but it proved me wrong. Kai was such a weird sweetheart. I really liked how the relationship developed over time. When he accidentally shot the father I gasped. I wanted them to be happy.

One thing that I don’t like is the structure. I don’t like to have the first chapter/prologue  in the present and then the majority of the book is spent in the past. I don't like it because I don’t want to know what will happen. In this book I was happy for them when they got together, but at the same time I just waited for something to be messed up because I knew it was coming.

The daughter was such a nice surprise. She was so sweet, and something that Kai deserved. It was such a nice moment when he started to connect to her because all he ever wanted was a family - even though he didn’t know it.

i adore Nera so much! but i don't quite like Kai. He's too full of himself. He acts like everyone is below him except his Nera, apparently (and i like it about him)

Darkest Sins takes you into the shadows of the mafia world with a romance that’s both heart-wrenching and sizzling.

In the ninth installment of the Perfectly Imperfect series, we meet Kai, a broken man shaped by violence, and Nera, the ray of light he didn’t know he needed. This is a slow-burn, obsessive love story that will have you clutching your heart one moment and gasping the next!

Kai, known as “The Demon,” has lived a life filled with nothing but death and darkness. He’s a man without a heart, only skilled at killing, until the night Nera saves him. She steps out of nowhere, stitching him back to life after a brutal attack. He becomes consumed by her—his “tiger cub”—watching her, protecting her, but never stepping fully into the light. Kai’s obsession with Nera grows with every passing day, though he keeps his distance, believing someone like him doesn’t deserve the love she could offer.

Nera, a kind-hearted woman who’s also a mafia princess, is a light in Kai’s world of shadows. She has no idea who this mysterious man is, but she’s drawn to him in ways she can’t explain. She sees through his rough exterior to the broken soul beneath, and every time he comes to her aid, she feels her heart fall deeper for him.

But Kai’s past is too dark to stay hidden for long, and when the truth is revealed, their love is put to the ultimate test.

“Even when I was on the brink of madness, barely alive and unable to grasp where or who I was, I remembered you.”

Kai is the epitome of a grumpy, obsessive hero. His protectiveness over Nera is next-level. From eliminating threats in her neighborhood to showing up at her vet clinic with self-inflicted wounds just to see her again—Kai will stop at nothing to keep Nera safe, even if it means staying in the shadows and watching her from afar. His transformation from a cold-hearted killer to a man desperate for the love of his “little tiger cub” is both gut-wrenching and beautiful.

This book is packed with intense emotions and some heavy-hitting moments. It dives into dark themes of abuse, violence, and trauma, but there’s also an overwhelming sense of hope as Kai and Nera fight their way toward each other. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and every stolen moment between the two will leave you breathless.

What really makes Darkest Sins shine is the push and pull between Kai and Nera. Their relationship is built on secrets and tension, but never lies, and the slow burn only makes their connection even more explosive.

The fact that Kai can’t read, and Nera reads to him while sitting in his lap? Heart-melting. Oh, and did I mention the secret baby trope? Yes, prepare yourself for some heart-stopping reveals!

Neva Altaj does an incredible job keeping the series fresh, even nine books in. The darkness, obsession, and powerful romance in Darkest Sins will keep you hooked from start to finish.

If you love possessive, broken heroes and fierce, resilient heroines, this is the book for you.
