Love the Filipino representation, but also, Jennifer Hillier did it again with her signature anti-heroine.

This was a highly anticipated read for me but unfortunately I did not love it as much as everyone else. I still enjoyed it, as in true Hillier fashion, the character development was amazing. Twisty. Dark. And entertaining for the most part. It felt like I was reading a movie and playing it out, which is always a plus for me. Loved the writing style.
Ruby Reyes was convicted of murdering a wealthy man aka her boyfriend in front of her daughter, Joey. Years later, Paris’s famous husband is found dead and Paris is deemed a suspect. Where is Joey after her mother went away? Did Paris kill her husband? Why is Drew (Joeys best friend) looking into her disappearance? Now that Ruby is being released, questions arise, fingers are pointed, and lies are revealed.
For me, it felt like there were too MANY subplots in this story and at times I found it confusing and a webbed mess. Lotssss of backstory. It was a bit slow and I figured things out quickly. Id say this is more of a cozy thriller than the ‘heart racing’ thrillers we know.

Loved the connections between the two worlds. I wasn’t sure how it would work out, but it worked beautifully.
