This was very good, but a hard read. The subject matter is dark and the implications are dark as well. That being said it’s so important to read about this. I do have to say the writing style of this is so odd and took me a while to get into. I think if this was written differently it could have been a five star and maybe more emotional. As for the thriller/mystery aspect it really wasn’t the main plot( and I found it predictable), but I still enjoyed it and that it was underlying. I really enjoyed learning more about the sister relationship and the family dynamics. I do have to say I didn’t love the ending.

I actually think this book is a great depiction of the reality of today’s opioid crisis. The plot had enough twists to keep me entertained and enough resolution by the time it ended, so I liked it quite a bit.

This was a can’t-put-down read, but I was fairly disappointed by it at the end. The writing was choppy throughout, and by the time the narrative reached its climax, the scenes went by quickly. I was interested in the Mickey and Truman’s  reflections on the role of police in handling addiction and interpersonal violence in poor communities, and her internal struggle with herself as a police officer. Ultimately, I wish Moore had gone further with these reflections instead of
having Mickey quit at the end, which felt like a cop-out.

This story of 2 sisters as they move in and out of each other's lives is gritty, slightly dark, and a bit of an emotional ride as all the heartbreak of addiction is covered. Though it got off to a bit of a slow start for me, at about 1/3 in, I was ALL in - the characters, particularly the main character of Mickey as I learned more about her. Great character development, a few twists (one I did NOT see coming), kept the pages turning quickly. Ostensibly a mystery (young women being killed in a community), that plot really takes a back seat to the tragedy of drug addiction and the fallout from that lifestyle. Definitely recommended.
