Opioids have been a theme of mine this summer, and this fiction take on the crisis did not disappoint! The story of these sisters was so good. I love to see how 2 people who are raised so similarly can make such different choices, that it can lead to such different lives. But, in this story, these sisters never gave up on each other. The mystery was good, but I enjoyed the relationships more than anything.

This was totally engrossing. A slow-burn, but engaging the whole time. Mickey is a complex, imperfect protagonist and the broader community of characters all feel deeply human. Mickey’s disillusionment with the police force served both the narrative and my own ability to enjoy a cop story.

The main issue I had with this book is Mickie was just a hard protagonist to connect with. She seemed so detached that it was hard to get behind her. I feel like I’ve seen this as a movie many times and I’ve enjoyed it a lot more as a film.

Great book, but would call it a soft thriller. It deals more with the struggles of addiction and the repercussion it has on kids and their families. Good development of suspense which made this book hard to turn down.
