Just didn’t like this. 2-d characters, ridiculously quick ending, nasty stereotypes.

Lots of tension and suspense in this debut by the author which was published back in 1975. The terrorism plot was realistic, though sometimes it did becomes mired down in the technical details of the plan, and the characters and their motivations were well drawn. A good first effort though his later works were much more polished.

Inhoud:

I loved Red Dragon by Thomas Harris, so I thought I'd give his first book a try.

Characters ☆☆☆
Only one character was remarkable. The rest were so generic.

Writing ☆☆☆
Boring. It didn't have the charm of Red Dragon's writing.

Flow ☆☆
Zzzzzzzz.

Ending ☆☆☆☆
The ending's pretty good. Action-packed.

Overall ☆☆☆
'Sall right. I'm not really a fan of the genre, and the execution did not compensate. This book reminded me of books by Robert Ludlum and Tom Clancy, the type of books I'll never touch again.

This is a surprisingly modern and very relevant story of terrorism. Very surpring to me it was written and first published in the 1970s. I found it slow and a bit hard to get into. For me the story only picked up a bit when we found out Michaels back story. I felt it a shame that we didn't really find out much about Dahlia, what exactly led her to being involved in terrorism. I found the built up the end quite exciting. I worried that maybe for once the author was going to let the terrorists get away with it! It went right down to the wire.
