The Deep was hauntingly beautiful. It felt very poetic at times. Very connective to real world, beyond being inspired by historical tragedy. We all carry the past with us, ours and/or our families, but you can’t let it consume you.

I’m still not sure how I felt about the romance(ish). I can see how it helped Yetu, but the time she spent beached gave a different feeling than the time leading up and after. If that makes any sense.

I kept waiting for something to happen but.... 
The audiobook was also not the way to go for this book, I just wasn't a fan of the narrator.

Overall a very good book. It does have some challenging themes, but I love the original take on mermaids. I feel like there were a couple of times the plot became rushed, but overall I really liked it
