A bit long but I'll be generous with my review, as I assume it was very innovative for the time. Gothic horror is an underused genre.

An iconic piece of literature that deserves its accolades.  Personally, it wasn't my taste. At times I found the characters frustrating and the pacing a bit inconsistent.  However, I can fully appreciate Bram Stoker's craftsmanship and the cultural impact Dracula had. Stoker's choice to construct the novel as an epistolary was a really interesting one, allowing the reader to puzzle out the terror that is Count Dracula alongside the cast. The atmosphere was chilling, apt for a gothic horror, but because of its format, the novel reads more as a Victorian investigative techno-thriller. It's fun to wonder how readers at the time of its release received the novel, given how much Dracula spoke to current (at the time) events and to Victorian values. So it's no wonder Dracula (and by extension, Van Helsing) became so embedded in the monster zeitgeist.

It was a great book, but I still couldn't wait to get to the end. I'm not sure why. It felt so long at unnecessary parts, but maybe I was impatient.
