2.5 stars. This story was pretty slow. Not much happened, and it was very predictable. Simon’s story was so heart-warming and compelling. I had higher hopes for this book.

This is such a fun story and I really really REALLLLLLLLY enjoyed being back with these characters.
I loved Leah I loved how imperfect she was I love how just talented and clever and a little/lot overwhelmed she was.
I need more of her and the whole gang, highschool ending is such a weird time and I felt Leahs story really encapsulated it perfectly all the feelings all the changing of friends the realisation that your not going to be able to spend every day with these people any more. Yep that was all perfect for me.
The romance was fantastic, gimme a girl like Leah that will draw amazing artwork and rock out on the drums.
Compared to Simon of course this was different but it in know way disappointed me coming back to the characters they all felt just as real as the first book and it made me all the happy.
NOW WHAT WE NEED IS A LEAH MOVIE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I read this book because I was undoubtedly obsessed with Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda. I'd seen the movie, and although it was significantly different than the book, I wanted more. Leah in the movie, I enjoyed as a character. The first book, not so much. I figured I would read Leah on the Offbeat as a way to get more insight into Simon & Bram's relationship, rather than getting to know Leah.
What I will say, is this is certainly a good read. Leah is probably my least favorite character in the Simonverse, but after this book I dislike her a little less. Leah is a hard to read girl with a very short fuse. She burns bridges and often doesn't care to turn around and mend them. I didn't expect this book to go where it did, and I'm definitely not the biggest fan of where the character developments lead. I guess I had my own ideas of how I saw the Simonverse characters turning out, and the only ones that I'm really happy with were of course Simon and Bram. Albertalli was smart enough to not ruin them, and for that I'm thankful.
I don't think this book will have the same following as the original, I personally didn't feel the same deep connection. I think the story line was a bit more predictable, and because of that I wasn't yearning to read every last page to find out what happens next in the same way. If you did like the original though, it's a nice read to continue reassurance that the characters live on! I hope more books come of the Simonverse, it will be interesting to see where things lead.
