I’ve always been a big fan of Gabrielle Union. In my eyes she’s typically played strong characters which is something I’ve always admired. As I’ve gotten older and learned more about her and her character, my respect and admiration for her has only increased. This book only added to those feelings.

Gabrielle was raw, powerful, and held back nothing in this collection of stories. There was really no rhyme or reason to the pattern of the stories but it still somehow flowed because her storytelling is so compelling. She talks about her childhood experiences growing up as one of very few people of color, being a woman, being a woman of color, and navigating all of this in Hollywood as well. It’s funny, it’s sad, it’s thought provoking, and it’s provocative. I will most certainly be adding her other book to my TBR pile.

Amazing. Simply amazing.

Rlatable, funny. Her personality (and acting) makes for great storytelling. There were chapters where I aughed myself to tears. And also chapters with real tears bc, wow, she's had some tragedy in her life. And her writing skill really surprised me!

She's so multi-talented, and I can't wait to read the next one!

If you get the opportunity to listen to the audio version of this book in Gabrielle Union's own words, I highly recommend it. This book is so deep and poignant, and once I started it and I couldn't stop. I laughed and I cried, and I examined a lot about myself and the world we live in. It's a beautifully written book, by a very talented woman and I can't wait to read her next work.
