Someone marked a content warning as "graphic rape" for this book and that is incorrect. The MMC continually checked in with the FMC when any sex occurred. This is an enemies to lovers romance and it leans into the hate-fueled spicy scenes more than other books of a similar drama but all sex is consensual in this book.

*I had the privilege and pleasure of beta reading this book. My opinions are honest and voluntary.

A murderous tale of an aerialist hell-bent on revenge for her sister's death. Unfortunately, her attempt fails and the monstrous prince takes her as his pet.

Umm hello, where did this fabulous dark fantasy romance come from?! Slaying the Shifter Prince has a shifter MC with a tail (yes, you know what that means), bullying, primal play, punishment, degradat!on, plus a murder mystery. Slaying the Shifter Prince feels like a Clare Sager novel, but Clare has sharpened her blade.

Zita and Sepher are playful, dominant, villainous, and headstrong. Neither will budge and nor are they morally good people. Both are willing play the game and test each others' boundaries. Don't go into this one expecting a sweet romance, but of course there is an HEA.

Zita and Celestine's bonding moments also felt special, where Zita was able to let go of grip on revenge and loosen her armour. These scenes provided a chance for both the FMC and readers to dig deeper into motivations.

The twist was so satisfying, even though it made my blood boil! Female rage is once again at the forefront, like in A Kiss of Iron, and Zita refuses to stand by. I loved seeing Zita and Sepher fall for each other amidst a darker fae world than we've seen before from Clare.

The Vibes:
- They both want revenge
- What a good pet
- Crawl for me
- I'm going to hunt you
- Caregiver moments
- He falls first

Also let us all swoon over how gorgeous this cover is!

Slaying the Shifter Prince is part of the Mortal Enemies to Monster Lovers series of standalones, but this is set in the Sabreverse. I've been told you'll likely see Zita and Sepher in future books, though if dark villain bully romance isn't your vibe, please skip it. Also, Zita shows up in one of Clare's previous books.

P.S. My husband reads these with me and this was too dark for him. He stopped around 50%, so this is your reminder that you don't need to read or finish every book you pick up if it's not the right fit!
