This book was a little too intense in some aspects for me, but it was still enjoyable in others. I really enjoy this world and getting a more rounded perspective of all the characters, motivations, etc. Some things fell flat for me, but that's just personal preference.

I recommend this if you can handle some darker elements in your romances and caution you to check specific warnings.

I read this book in 1-day. But I think that says more about me than the story.
-FMC only POV
-fae creatures (non-human, well he is a shifter)
-late twenties FMC
-M/F
-he does make her his pet (collars/crawling)

If you like cruelty and degradation in your romance you’ll be intrigued with some of the scenes, but it wasn’t emotionally charged enough for it to capture my interest.

There wasn’t enough substance for me to be in the story with the characters. I didn’t care about the resolution to the biggest storyline and skimmed through the last chapter because I was exhausted with the plot.

Not my usual genre - but enjoyed I think? A bit sketched out by some of the earlier content but it got easier throughout.

Quick, angsty and spicy read. It was a good palate cleanser but nothing to write home about

Morally grey male lead, enemies to lovers, fae bargains, and strong FMC? Sign me up!
Zita has spent the past 10 years plotting revenge against the man who murdered her sister. The only problem is he isn't a man, he is a Fae Prince, one of monsters and cruelty. When she finally gets the chance to kill him and fails, he instead claims her life as his and takes her as a pet. If Sepher thinks she is going to break, he is in for a surprise. As for Zita, she hates Sepher, and hates what he is waking up inside of her.
Sager writes FMC so well, I love how they are always strong and take no shit, Zita is no different. She is sharp and while I have seen so many different fae kidnapping situations in books, never have I seen one where the captee so well retains the upper hand and doesn't "break". The way her ring dancing is described, and just overall how she carries herself was just so well done! Everything about Zita is defiant, sharp, and strong. Again, I love how well written she is!
This is a very true enemies to lovers, they each actively despise each other and spend a good chunk of the book in a battle of wills, the sexual tension rising with each chapter. There are content warnings (love to see it) because a lot how Sepher treats Zita in the beginning when she is his "pet" is very toxic/abusive. Of course the payoff is so incredibly worth it, there is nothing hotter than hate sex.

Favorite Parts: Poker scene, Sepher caring for her injury, bathtime, Zita with her ring, Zita annoying him literally every chapter

I always love reading anything by Clare Sager because yes there are fantastically spicy scenes, but the world building and lore always impress and pulls me deeper into the story.
When I love a book like this (and all Clare Sager's other books) it's so hard to review because I really just LOVED it so much, and just want to gush about how great it is.

I highly HIGHLY recommend this book, and really anything by her, you won't regret it! (Seriously y'all, her books are fantastic!)

“Yours isn’t a sad story; I won’t let it be. Not anymore. Yours is a story of revenge and living. Of obliterating those who wronged you. Of making the world see you whether it wants to or not.”

Fans of dark fantasy romance and villains with lots of spicy scenes will love this book!

This book is a lot spicier and darker than I imagine, so I highly suggest to check out the trigger warnings below before reading this book cause some scenes may be sensitive to you.

The plot idea is great, it keeps me interested until the end figuring out the mystery of Zita’s sister and also getting to know the characters. The plot also flows smoothly with short chapters and great writing style.

The characters are well developed and the main characters are quite complex.
Zita went through a lot of stuff but remain as a strong and determined personality which I admire. She’s definitely the perfect and equal match to Sepher – the love interest. He’s the definition of a villain that is ruthless but he has an unexpected soft caring side for the FMC.

I love seeing how Zita and Sepher's relationship progress throughout the story, how it slowly change from enemies to lovers.
Even though there’s a heavy amount of spicy scenes in the story, it doesn’t take over the plot and the characters development which I really like.

Overall, this is a great read with a satisfying ending for all characters. One of the darkest and spiciest book with a compelling plot that I find enjoyable and entertaining.
I’m really looking forward to read more books from this author in the future!

⚠️ 𝐓𝐖: References to sexual assault, primal play, Light blood play.
This is a villain romance with bully elements. The MMC behaves in ways we’d never expect a hero to.

Thank you to Book of Matches Media and author for giving me an e-ARC of the book and for having me on this book tour. I’m leaving this review voluntarily!

*I had the privilege and pleasure of beta reading this book. My opinions are honest and voluntary.

A murderous tale of an aerialist hell-bent on revenge for her sister's death. Unfortunately, her attempt fails and the monstrous prince takes her as his pet.

Umm hello, where did this fabulous dark fantasy romance come from?! Slaying the Shifter Prince has a shifter MC with a tail (yes, you know what that means), bullying, primal play, punishment, degradat!on, plus a murder mystery. Slaying the Shifter Prince feels like a Clare Sager novel, but Clare has sharpened her blade.

Zita and Sepher are playful, dominant, villainous, and headstrong. Neither will budge and nor are they morally good people. Both are willing play the game and test each others' boundaries. Don't go into this one expecting a sweet romance, but of course there is an HEA.

Zita and Celestine's bonding moments also felt special, where Zita was able to let go of grip on revenge and loosen her armour. These scenes provided a chance for both the FMC and readers to dig deeper into motivations.

The twist was so satisfying, even though it made my blood boil! Female rage is once again at the forefront, like in A Kiss of Iron, and Zita refuses to stand by. I loved seeing Zita and Sepher fall for each other amidst a darker fae world than we've seen before from Clare.

The Vibes:
- They both want revenge
- What a good pet
- Crawl for me
- I'm going to hunt you
- Caregiver moments
- He falls first

Also let us all swoon over how gorgeous this cover is!

Slaying the Shifter Prince is part of the Mortal Enemies to Monster Lovers series of standalones, but this is set in the Sabreverse. I've been told you'll likely see Zita and Sepher in future books, though if dark villain bully romance isn't your vibe, please skip it. Also, Zita shows up in one of Clare's previous books.

P.S. My husband reads these with me and this was too dark for him. He stopped around 50%, so this is your reminder that you don't need to read or finish every book you pick up if it's not the right fit!
