A hard read

I found the characters unengaging, I really struggled to connect to anyone in the book.

The two main characters weren't rounded enough for me to root for them. Constant drama, alot happened but none of it felt like the story. I normally read books like this in a day but this one has taken me 4 and I have no desire to read the next one in the series.

Also - errors in book with grammar and editi
ng that I found off putting.

New to me author

This story toggled between a 3 and 4 out of 5 for me, I’m not really sure why, it’s a good story Hm I wonder what I’m missing?

Maybe I will find out in the follow up book.

I would recommend, it is an easy read- check it out.

I’m not quite sure where to start this….

I was excited to read this, but unfortunately I couldn’t connect with the characters as this was written in a way that “tells” you the story as opposed to “showing” you.

The characters' inner monologue explained what they were doing, and rarely was what they were feeling, smelling, seeing, all the details that bring characters to life on the pages weren’t shared, making it impossible for me to immerse myself inside this world.

I didn’t feel a connection between Mason and Nina, but that could have been due to the fact that other than thinking each other were hot, not many other feelings they brought out of one another were shared. There were several things that transpired between them that were purely toxic and cemented in my head that they shouldn’t even be together.

A misunderstanding had Nina running from Mason, and in instance I understood why she accepted his apology, but there were several others that I had wanted her to walk away from him for good. Any sort of confrontation between them and his immediate reaction was to spew vile ignorant things at her, more than once.

*SPOILERS BELOW*

The subplot taking place alongside Mason and Nina’s romance was a bit of a mess. In chapter 1 it says that Nina had met Erin at a cafe 12 months before this story took place.

Later in the book “Erin” comes and visits, but from doing some digging Mason finds that the real Erin passed away 6 weeks before, but there’s never an explanation on how Cara used this person’s identity for an entire year before the woman died, and bought the studio 1 week before she met Mason.

When Mason is explaining things to Nina he says he took Cara home from the bar 14 months before which doesn’t follow the previously mentioned timeline.

There was also an instance where he says, “I thought I could trust her, but look what a piece of work she turned out to be.”
But in his “remembering” while explaining things to Nina, he had only met her that night and his inner monologue explains that he knows she’s like everyone else, meaning eager to please because he’s rich.

There’s a whole thing that happens and she starts blackmailing him, and what she asks for doesn’t make any sense. She wants money and his mother’s piano, her reasoning, “he used her,” it was clearly a one night stand in which she was fully on board with. Then she “hid it” inside the studio.
It just didn’t really add up, as there’s no explanation on this woman that has been conning rich men for years, bought a building, and then meets a stranger in a coffee shop and tells her she needs to rent it out within 3 weeks.

It ends in a cliffhanger and honestly, I have no interest in knowing what happens.

This story was kind of messy and hard to follow for the first part of the book. However, once I grew accustomed to the writers flow, I was very interested. It just wasn’t fully coherent but it is also her first book. And I’m not a writer so take that with a grain of salt.

There was a lot of sex. Not a bad thing but definitely the foundation of Nina and Mason’s relationship. They were super hot together. They didn’t communicate for shit but they were so drawn to the other.

Mason said the most horrible things to Nina. He was so reactive in his language towards her. Other than their sexual compatibility, there really wasn’t much for her to cling to. But he had passion. He felt for her so strongly he wasn’t in control of his emotions. They actually both seemed overwhelmed by their feelings abs unable to fully process the connection.

They never took a moment to breathe once they were together so it made sense the crash and burn was on the horizon.

There were twists and turns that kept me going. Plus, I really enjoy the side characters. They add so much to Mason and Nina’s story.

I promise you forever, my Pixie.”

Mason Lowell: Broody. Overprotective. Angry. Dominant. Sexy as all Hell. Alpha Male. Business Owner.

Nina Anderson: Down to Earth. Sassy. Troubled Past. Strong. Resilient. Dance Teacher.

These two went through all of it. When it was good, they were straight fire. When it was bad, they collided hard. They took the turns of the emotional rollercoaster hard and you felt every single twist and turn. These two are seriously toxic but we really got to see deep down into the characters because of it.

Mason and Nina have an instant connection, there was just something between them from the very first moment they laid eyes on each other.

There was so many secrets kept and so much suspense throughout this book. And let’s not get started on this cliffhanger.

I thoroughly enjoyed this first book and so ready for the second. Grand Lies is full of emotions, promises, lies, betrayal, heartbreak. And I was here for every single minute.

If you love spice then you'll love this. There's a spicey scene in every single chapter. I would have loved more plot and storyline but the characters definitely had a lot of chemistry. This was a very long book for a duet and their story didn't seem to progress much. The ending could have also done with some improvement.

Hits the mark for insta love and possessive, billionaire male.

Nina isn't my favourite character and she becomes annoying throughout the story, especially when it came to how she reacted to certain situations. The friendships that Nina has revolved around her and didn't seem to have scenes where it focused on something else other than Nina. In the second half of the book Mason's character seemed to alter and I was thrown by this new side to him. It didn't suit the alpha, possessive man we saw in the first 300 pages. These two are very toxic for each other but the tension between them keeps you hooked.
