I hardly stray from the usual contemporary romances that I read. But lately I’ve been wanting some variety. So I tried reading some fantasy novels and surprisingly I quite liked it. So I decided to go for a historical this time. The blurb of this book intrigued me so I immediately picked this up. And I truly loved it. Everything in this book was perfect. The characters were well developed, had certain complexities to them. Leela was such a badass! In that day and age, she had the courage to live an adventurous life, something that was unheard of ladies at that time. She was brave, intelligent, talented and an absolute force! Obviously Hunt had no other option except to be swept away by her.

He was completely enchanted by their brief encounter. He was unable to get her off his mind. But his feelings ran so deep for her that he was willing to sacrifice his love and do what Leela asked to do- to marry Victoria. And well who knew little miss innocent had other plans completely on her own. I’d be lying if I said I was surprised she ran away with Foster. Because throughout the book, it was apparent that she loved to talk about books and other mutual interests that she shared with Foster. Her shyness faded away when she talked passionately about the things she loved.

And yeah Hunt was mad because of the humiliation he had to face but that resulted in him engaging in a clandestine affair with Leela and that was worth it to him. Even though Leela thought she didn’t fulfill the attributes for a proper duchess and wanted to burst free of societal connections. But how can you fight a love like that? So yeah, they end up together and it’s a happily ever after! After reading this book, I am definitely interested in more historical romances.

Loved the heroine. Absolutely hated the actual romance.
