Weapon

Lynette Noni

4.12 AVERAGE

Weapon is Lynette Noni’s much anticipated sequel to the bestselling novel Whisper.⁣

We join Alyssa, her friends, and her enemies where we left off and follow her journey for the truth and a better understanding of her power. ⁣

I am kicking myself for not re reading Whisper before I read this, as I spent the first few chapters confused trying to remember what happened previously.

This book was truly amazing. The plot twists left me gaping and it was a magnificent conclusion to the Whisper Duology!

Ahhhhh that ending was WILD! A lot of scheming and build up that I think in the end was worth all the details! The last scene was freakin ADORABLE and I loved it. I do wish Ward and Lis weren’t separated so much but I understood why that happened when everything was revealed in the end. Overall, I think this was a solid series and I frickin LOVE LN’s books!!!

I feel like I read most of this one with my mouth hanging open. So many times I had to stop, close the book, take a second to "what the heck?!" and let my brain have a mini explosion before I could keep going. This was insane.

All the way through, I attempted to figure out what was happening and which characters were good/bad, lying/telling the truth and sometimes I thought I had an idea but NO! While I may have guessed a couple of revelations, I could not for the life of me work out how they would be revealed...

SO. MANY. TWISTS.

Lynette you are the master. I cannot WAIT for The Prison Healer release...

What happened to Sneak??? Slasher??
Why less Enzo? Shadow, echo and song were good characters with very little to contribute. They had a credible backstory that bridged gaps but, they were scarce. z-Ward was not okay!!! And there was heroic oblivious Lyss.

The final reveals aren’t all that surprising, but it’s still a gripping story. I like that the ending left a few things ambiguous, such as the punishment for the villains and such. The suspense is great, even though quite a bit of the plot is predictable, and the ending wasn’t immune from the big villain speeches that made things a little too convenient.
The villains don’t seem to have enough ground to be murdering everyone with superpowers. Yes you suffered losses, yes you no longer have superpowers. But…really? I feel like this is an indication that the author lost track of what they wanted to write, that the plot got away from them and thus ended up being self-contradictory. Who was the clinically insane one? Was it Vanik or Jeremiah? Perhaps both, but wow is Kael a great actor if he was able to hold back all those emotions and play along with whatever his father planned.
The gaping plot hole of EVERYONE forgetting what the hell happened aside (which feels incredibly lazy), I did stay up finish it, and I quite hastily purchased this book after reading Whisper (the first book of the duology). I probably would enjoy it more if I was younger and less bothered by tropes, convenient plots, annoying Mary Sue protagonist, and oh so dreamy love interests.

I enjoyed this duology sooo much! I will be looking for more books by this Author.
