I enjoyed the read but I did have some problems with the story
first of all, I think the villain's motive wasn't very good like come on just because your wife died and you didn't have access to the one person you knew could heal her doesn't mean you seek vengeance on the whole supernatural race. Also, did he have to explain the whole evil plan before he carried it out, we as readers could have found out about it through an interrogation
I was also annoyed with Alyssa for some bits. First, she held in important info from her friends because she wanted to share it "once she's ready" like girl come on they need to know that stuff. Also, even when multiple sources went against what kael had told her, instead of thinking he lied, she kept on mindlessly trusting him and instead got suspicious of the people who told her the stuff
Which leads me to kael. I was able to predict easily that he was going to betray everyone so it wasn't a shock when he did. but I feel like by the end of the book he would've developed some kind of soft spot for Alyssa or someone from the remnants but he wasn't the slightest bit sorry. He didn't even have anything really to say on his betrayal
I was also confused what gave vanik the sudden change of heart that he would take a bullet for Alyssa? after all that he did, where did the sudden change in morals come from?
Something else that wasn't explained very well was Alyssa's ability to Speak without actually speaking. All that was said to explain it was that she is an incredible evolution and it was because both her parents are powerful
Was anyone else confused by Liana's prediction thing? Like her brother, mum, and arryn barely had anything really to do with what happened and the answers she got. Alyssa said the prophecy was pretty much saying her mother, brother, and his girlfriend would have a big part in her future, but they didn't
I think especially with all the new introduced characters there should have been more development of them and we shoulda seen more of some of the characters from the first book. This contributes to how I think there should have been an epilogue, so we could have seen those book 1 characters again and resolved some things more
Despite all these things, it was still an enjoyable read, but with things that could be fixed

4.5 stars. I’m absolutely FLABBERGASTED. I thought I understood what was happening in this book and BOY was i WRONG. Every page had me SHOCKED by the plot twists and i got major butterflies at the end. I’m in love and confused and WHAT!?

I immediately pick this up as soon as i finished the first one. this world is so amazing and full of mystery. great start to 2020.
