[high 4] HUH? LOL? ……. also, the author captured what participating in first year seminar at a historically women’s college feels like (and im not just talking about the classroom scenes)

📚🍹book club book!!📚🍸

I don’t know how to feel about this! Read like a crazy fever dream where I had no idea what was going on or what was going to happen next.
Samantha was quite pathetic, but did enjoy the bit where she joined the bunny cult, wish there was more of that part. Give me more horror or tension or mystery!! Some body gore but (in my opinion) not enough. SO MANY METAPHORS.

So weird and totally messed with my head, but in quite a fun way.
Think I just wanted more from it, not sure what, but it just fell a bit short for me.

Note to self: don’t make friends or go to grad school.

I am not quite sure what I just read....

But this book does remind me why I always felt more at home with my fellow history minors instead of those who were English majors, especially those who took a lot of creative writing courses. :)

I'm not sure what was happening very often, but I hope there were drugs involved....

I wasn’t as into it as I thought I would be, but super crazy and entertaining. Making an interesting commentary on academia and female friendship

Some of the writing was impeccable and really reminded me of dense academic texts (probably intentionally), but SPOILERS: the big plot twist - or at least, my interpretation of the text - that Samantha has imagined some, if not all, of the scenarios and people that she encounters felt very lazy. In a nutshell, this story could very well be a reiteration of the “it was all a dream/illusion!” trope, which doesn’t float my boat. There was also a lot of bashing on femininity (pink, “girly” clothes, sweet things) and women-hating, which felt very backward in the year 2023. A mixed bag.
