Rated 4 stars for pushing me away, then sucking me in.
If you like Heathers you'll like this.
I read this book outside of a book club, and wish I had people to discus it with. The first half was difficult to get through, I felt like it should have been a speedy read, but I was never hooked. The main character is surrounded by a negative influences on all sides, and internally. I suspect the FL has some form of early schizophrenia, and so trusting what she is describing is challenging. In addition she had depression goggles on real bad and it made the book hard to pick up before the plot developed further. This book is like Friends, I don't understand how people finance their lifestyles. For whatever reason, in my head bff was trans; I found that this suited the story rather well.
I suspected bff to be imaginary early, but did not piece together that she was animal based. Ultimately, I think it was hypocritical of the MDMA Barbie's to criticize FL for getting lost with what people were real and not because they basically used her for her ability to make such lifelike recreations. I think her inability to differentiate reality was what enhanced her artistic endeavors to a realistic form, but then MDMA Barbie's criticize her when they can not produce the same level of quality in their genetalialess boyfriends.
Pre requisite readings: Heathers (movie, recommended)
RATED R for animal cruelty, violence, drug abuse
Eyballs or Ears? Eyes
Fluff or Heft: Medium heft
Vibe: Spooky shiny
Wordliness: Very good adverbly usage
Worldy-ness: Encapsulated college town with MR
Test of time and Re-readablility: No and yes. This book could be read agian with a more in depth understanding of the text, but I will not be doing that.
Thoughts provoked? I liked how available this book was to critical analysis.
Did I grow? No
