Overall a slow slog through an ordinary coming of age. You do begin to enjoy Sam and her life but it is all kind of slow moving.

This book was amazing. I cried several times. Everything about this book felt so so true - Sam’s relationships, her thought processes, her guilt and self righteousness, all the decisions she made. Nothing about this book could have been better. A must read if you have mommy or daddy issues.

A good read focused on Sam and her child teenage years, growing up in a difficult family situation and finding things she loves. Moody and captivating

Minor: Adult/minor relationship

This book follows Sam from the time she's seven until she's nineteen. In the course of the book, Sam learns a lot about herself and about those around her. Her life isn't an easy one, and I felt for her and even related to her in some ways. Sam's relationship with her dad is a bit complicated and sad, as is her relationship with her climbing coach and other adults in her life. This one made me cry a few times, but I really enjoy watching Sam grow through the pages.
