a nice, cozy mystery set at a retirement community! i liked amber and her relationship with her grandma/grandma's friends, as well as the podcast storyline...but amber and her boyfriend were just awful and brought the book down a notch for me.

Good, fast paced mystery, with a good ending. I liked the characters - Amber Winslow goes to visit her grandmother in an old-age retirement community - meeting her for the first time, since her mother was estranged from her. And when her grandmother's friend dies under suspicious circumstances ... well, what is almost-PI Amber supposed to do? Let her grandmother take the rap? So Amber starts digging into the secrets of the community, her ex boyfriend shows up, and there is this tortoise she has to find ... anyway, it was good fun, not to deep, fun characters, a good cozy mystery.

ARC Review
Thank you Tamara Berry, Poisoned Pen Press, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
As always, I try to have my reviews be spoiler free and focus on my feelings during and after reading the book.
Overall: This book was kitschy and a never-ending good time! I want a friend group like this!
Things I loved: the pacing, the humor, the friend group, the character growth
Things I wanted more of: the romance and the biological family drama.
Things I wanted less of: the ex-boyfriend

Murder Runs in the Family is a charming and cozy mystery with a light, easygoing tone. The pacing was a bit slow for my taste, so I found myself reading a chapter or two at a time between other books.
Amber is a likeable protagonist. She’s finding her footing again as a private investigator while reconnecting with her grandmother and settling into the quirky dynamics of an assisted living community… all while trying to solve a resident’s murder and fostering his tortoise. It is a quirky, chaotic, and funny story.
For me, it was a great palate cleanser between heavier books. It’s a nice option when you need something a bit lighter and refreshing.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
