Could have been better had so much potential but fell flat. The third person narrating kept throwing me off. Almost dnf but I powered through.

The first half of this book was in 5 star territory. I liked that Eva and Shane had great chemistry. But my excitement fizzled out in the second half.

The characters didn’t act their age. Eva’s 12yo daughter spoke like an adult and worked under the table as a child therapist, for some reason. Fine. But Eva and Shane’s relationship was so overly dramatic it bordered childish. Every conflict between them could have been solved with communication. (This is common in romance but it’s still a minus.) Why would you spend all day writing a romantic speech to someone without first responding to their multiple concerned texts after not showing up? Not a single message to tell them you’re okay, knowing their past trauma? The angst felt forced and unnecessary. It didn’t work for me.

Another problem I had was with the way the racial conflict was handled. There was only one, regarding whitewashing, so it seemed like it would be a considerable part of the story. Eva had one real conversation about it and seemed like she was going to put up a fight. Then it conveniently resolved itself without any action from Eva. And that was the end of that.

I’m in love with this book. It was a rollercoaster. I usually prefer a slow burn but this book somehow worked with only 2 weeks of actual character interaction. Shane and Eva and Audre are perfect

Solid 4.5⭐️ this book was laugh out loud funny and heartfelt emotional! As someone who LOVES a second chance romance, I absolutely adored this read!

I thought the storytelling in this book was so beautiful! I loved the characters and their flaws. I would recommend this book to anyone who wanted to dip their toes into the second chance romance waters.

The only thing holding me back from giving this book a higher rating is that it felt like I was reading a story rather than living a story. I don’t know if it was the POV switches or what but I did FEEL this story racing through my blood. It was beautiful though!
