**spoiler alert** ugh, UGH THE PAIN. There’s a bittersweet feeling in my heart seeing this series come to an end. There were so many loses, so many fallen for a greater good, yet there was still some faith in the end. Everyone lost was for those who could to live a normal and fulfilling life. 23 volumes, 4 months with these characters, this world and all I can say is tanjiro and nezuko will always have a special place in my heart, all the hashira, the demon slayers the corps and all of those along the way that helped our main characters ultimately defeat muzan.
ALL I FEEL IS BITTERSWEET PAIN AND TEARS STREAMING DOWN MY FACE BUT I LOVE IT

I’m actually sad I finished this. I’d been beating around the bush for so long, scared to find out how it all went down…I’m glad I powered through it.
I’d heard from a lot of friends that the ending left something to be desired, but I liked it. Sure, the story felt a bit rushed at times, and I wish there had been more time to flesh out some of the characters further, but the ending was solid.

I love this manga series. It went from being mild to my absolute favorite. I literally have all of the physical copies. That being said, I need to get some things out of my chest.

Rengoku was my favorite character and I cried so much when he died. However, Mitsuri and Obanai’s deaths?? Those tore me apart from the inside out. The amount of characters dying and at the pace it was happening barely even gave me time to recover.

Himejima’s backstory was one of the saddest for me. I cried so hard when he died and he saw those kids who died in the forest.

I didn’t like Nezuko turning human. I think that was an easy route. I know this was bound to happen, but I still didn’t want it to. I didn’t expect this manga to have a happy ending (to the extent it does, considering the heartache it put us through).

Tanjiro turning into the perfect demon and then human again felt like UTTER plot armor to me. If he’d died, it would have been so much better.

That being said, this series is literally the reason why I need therapy. I stopped getting attached to characters because of these books.

[Scattered thoughts] That was a very underwhelming conclusion. I seem to be in the minority here but it felt like the story wrapped up too quickly. To be clear, the final fight took 7 volumes to cover so it wasn't about the length. The story was short for the scale it promised at the beginning and it was simplistic in its characters' rhetoric (fighting for humanity, kindness towards enemies, self-sacrifice, typical shounen fare). The volumes I enjoyed the most were the very few that covered downtime between hunting demons since they were the most reflective and had the best interactions between characters. I teared up when
Shinobu
died but was emotionally checked once more and more characters died. It was just too much.

There were also a lot of questions I had that weren't really addressed or were answered in super unsatisfying ways. I had some predictions for plot reveals that really went nowhere
(e.g. the whole Yoriichi thing was built up for a grand reveal but the only relevant part was that he somehow managed to pass sun breathing to Tanjiro's ancestors? I was expecting more from that "legendary" figure)
and the overall feeling I'm left with is dissatisfaction. (Also, what was the point of Nezuko?) It's not a terrible series but it's not amazing either.

Why yes, I did spend 95% of this volume sobbing hysterically. And no, I have no shame admitting that.

So, final thoughts on the series: This was an absolute delight to read from start to finish. The artwork struck a great balance of being beautiful and intense as well as goofy and simple. The fight scenes were dope as fuck and I LOVED the breathing techniques. Each fight was a feast for the eyes and my eyes were stuffed after every battle. The characters were the highlight of the series, with our main squad of Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Nezuko bringing their best every time. Speaking of characters, the female characters in this series were some of my favorites in Shounen Jump as well as shounen action in general. Yes, they didn't get as much time to shine and there weren't as many (as per usual in a shounen action series) but when they were present the DOMINATED. Tamayo and Shinobu are still the MVP's of this series, don't @ me. And, of course, the focus on family and familial bonds made me super fucking happy as someone who values family most in her life.

That being said, nothing is without flaws and Demon Slayer is not exception. Its biggest weakness was its story, which is either simple at best or flimsy at worst. So many plot points and story lines ended up going nowhere due to the admittedly rushed nature of the story, and because of that there are times when a plot point would be brought up and I'm thinking, "wait, what is this again? When was this established?" If you're a story-driven reader, this series may not be what you're looking for. While I do love the characters, most of them only get to show up once or twice and then are either killed or do nothing for the rest of the series. Don't get me wrong, I still love them, but it is frustrating that they don't get to do a whole lot thanks to, again, the rushed and short nature of the story. The ending was a little weird, but I still liked it and think that it works for the narrative.

Overall, this was an incredibly entertaining series that has become a favorite. No, it's not doing anything special and isn't "original," but it knew what it was and had fun with it. If you want a quick, fast-paced action series with a group of lovable characters, definitely give this a shot. It's worth it.

Wow, what a way to end a series! There was nothing in this final battle arc of the last three volumes that totally surprised me (just made me cry) but it was a wild ride from start to finish. I'm really going to miss these characters. :,)
