Although the plot is certainly compelling and there is a huge potential for world building (giant house full of secret tunnels, compartments, everything is something other than it seems), the characters were incredibly flat, and the world went woefully underdeveloped. The main character has zero personality, no motivation, and is really just a device that the reader can use to shoehorn themselves into the story. The love interests didn’t actually make any sense, as the characters and their relationships with one another were also underdeveloped. The concept has a lot of potential, but the writing and plot/character development just didn’t deliver.
