i binge read the seven realms series over approximately a week, and it was the most fun i've had reading this year. i'm going to talk about the series in it's entirety in this review, due to how closely i read all of them.

the seven realms series gripped me from the beginning with its fleshed-out characters, fascinating world and interesting politics. in book one, i was highly invested in both raisa and han's individual stories and arcs, and seeing how they slowly intertwined only to go off on their separate paths again.

raisa and han's romance was definitely the highlight for me. seeing them slowly fall for each other, and seeing how their romance would inevitably impact the overarching plot was one of my favourite things to read. it was beautifully written. additionally, many of the supporting characters, including the villains, were particularly memorable.

that being said, the series is not free of faults. imo, the first book remains the strongest, despite the following books still being thoroughly enjoyable. one area i believe could have been improved on is the focus on supporting characters. by book 3, most of the supporting characters did not have character arcs of their own, merely acting as supports to our protagonists. this made it difficult to care for their presence in the story. for example, amon got engaged to annamaya, but we barely saw his pov, so it was difficult to tell whether he developed genuine feelings for her in the end, or if he still pined over raisa. additionally, whilst i did adore han and raisa's romance, i do feel that it was disappointing that this acted as his sole character motivation/goal in the final book, particularly considering his rich history.

in the end, this was a great series, and i do recommend it to anyone looking for a series to get invested in.

This was rather good. I recommend for 13-15 but if you are older you’ll probably still enjoy it. The only thing about this series that really makes me not LOVE it was how many subplots there were. Each subplot seemed to be its own main plot that didn’t get wrapped up until this ending. It was still good and I loved how Cinda Williams Chima put those twists in the end and gave us a happy ending.
