I'm really glad I recently read M to (WT)F before this because it provided some more context about Samantha Allen, but I also really liked this one. I will forever love queer romance and sapphic trans romance is extra special because we see so little representation. This memoir should go on everyone's list!

Love & Estrogen is a lot of things at once: a love story, a study of people, an overview of what it means to be transgender, and- most of all- immensely personal. Samantha Allen wrote a beautiful story that leaves you feeling closer to other people. It’s real and lovely.

I’m a lesbian married to a trans woman and I often don’t find good representation of what a relationship like ours looks like. Finding a story like this means relating to it so much more than you might to, say, a straight romance novel (nothing wrong with those!). I truly believe you will love this story no matter what your background is, but as someone who loves a person that’s gone through some of the struggles Samantha has, this story now has a permanent place in my heart.

A beautiful, VERY quick read. So many highlight-worthy sentences, like “For us, like for so many two-woman couples, the border between friendship and romance was not only porous but wafer-thin.” I want more of these stories!

I loved this book! As a gay and trans person, stories about people like me finding love (especially in such dreamlike circumstances) are almost impossible to find beyond, say, short forum posts. Allen's story pushes back on the prevailing narrative that trans people are unlovable and unattractive, instead showing a tenderly-written glimpse into a queer trans-cis relationship. Also, meeting your wife in an elevator at the Kinsey Institute is just incredible.

As a heterosexual cisgender woman, I so appreciate the courage Allen found to tell her story in such an intimate way. It isn’t always easy (at least for me) to be so candid about your true feelings, insecurities & the thoughts rolling around in your head... but I am thankful she did it because I feel like I learned so much from her unique perspective. I have always purposed to be inclusive & supportive & understanding of everyone but this book will help me be an even better friend & ally going forward.

Sweet, intelligent, funny

Samantha is funny and romantic, intelligent and coherent. She takes what could be a complex situation and extracts humor and sweetness easily.
I had to put the book down to squeal to my wife when Samantha explains how her wife proposed to her.
I will say the illustrations are pretty but the animations are superficial. Have no fear reading this on a Kindle device instead of a tablet or phone.
