Written and told through letters it was a fun read with some romance. Just not my preferred way to tell a story, but still very good

Great escapist read

This book does a great job with creating a narrative using a very piecemeal style of letters between characters. The plot is predictable, but in a nice way, and the author did a fantastic job of building a visual of the island during and after the German Occupation. Great for a quick, easy and mostly light read.

The one thing I didn’t like was the praise of Charlotte Brontë and that imbecile Mr Rochester

Y'all remember when Lily James dumped Glen Powell for Michiel Huisman? I do bc I CRIED. Idk why this book (and movie) are so dear to me but they are 😭 but it's like not an objectively 10/10 book (it is in my heart) and you have to like epistolary novels (which I do) and overlook some plot points that are kinda mid.... I'll round down to be reasonable

On this reread I found the epistolary style to be a little hard to get into, but it was still an engaging read. I'm interested to see if the movie does it justice!
