A great read on so many levels. Part comedy, part oftentimes dark drama, woven together seamlessly by a gifted storyteller.

A funny book about domestic violence and female rage? I guess nothing's impossible. This is one of the most fun and entertaining books I've ever read. (Seriously, I don't know when I've ever straight-up laughed through reading the climax of a story.) Not only is the premise just flat-out fantastic, but the execution is sublime. The pacing is pitch-perfect--the plot moves along quickly, but isn't rushed at all. Every event builds well on the last, and various pieces converge perfectly for the climax. I think I would really enjoy this book for the plot alone.

But that's not my favourite thing! Of course not. Geeta's characterization and journey is so cathartic and empowering. I like that being a victim and survivor wasn't her whole story, even if inevitably it formed the backbone for this novel. Geeta also let her own pride and fear prevent her from getting close to others, frequently assuming the worst of everyone at the start of the book. To see her overcome that in order to form really strong and powerful relationships with the women in her life was so rewarding.

Just absolutely loved this book. I don't know if I could find anything bad to say about it if I tried. Watch the TW, I guess. They're handled well, but there's still a lot.
