Elsie must be putting crack in these books because I can’t put them down. I zoom through them. They take up every waking second of my time. When I’m not reading it I want to be reading it. I went from zero to super fan in the span of like a week.

This book is no exception. Jasper Jasper Jasper. How I love me a tortured soul. And this man is definitely got some torture going on in his soul. I loved learning more about his backstory. I love getting more insight into just him as a character. I also love Sloane so very much. She is seriously a tie for my fave with Willa. Sassy and beautiful and talented? Hell yeah sister. Fuck her dad though, hate that guy so much.

Also if you aren’t reading Harvey’s bonus chapters WHAT ARE YOU DOING HE IS SO HILARIOUS!!! I love the fact he gets more unhinged every book. Tail babies will never fail to kill me lmfao.

I wanted to read this book because Elsie Silver is adored all over the book community, I have been enjoying this series. I love romance and cowboys and hockey. I wanted to know more about Jasper and Sloane from the peek that we got in the last book. This story was hot, and I loved it.

This book is based on Jasper and Sloane. They are two childhood friends, two broken hearts. One impromptu road trip to get away from everything, that’s all this was supposed to be. After all, they’ve been living in the friend zone for years now. But the hockey heartthrob Jasper Gervais isn’t looking at Sloane Winthrop like a friend anymore and he isn’t touching her line one either. To his fans, he’s the handsome, talented and loyal athlete on TV. But to Sloane, he’s still the lost boy with the sad eyes and a heart of hold. The man she has loved in secret for years. So when Sloane’s life fell apart on her wedding day, it only makes sense that he is the one to swoop in and save her. And when his world comes crashing down around him, Sloane is there to return the favour. But the more time they spend alone, the more Jasper doesn’t feel like a friend at all. He feels like everything she has ever wanted and thought she could never have. Their feelings aren’t straight forward though. They twist and turn around the pain of Jasper’s past and the reality of their present. Jasper acts like he wants Sloane. But after years of turning Sloane away, he is going to have to prove it.

This series is so addictive. I didn’t think that cowboy hockey romances could be this addictive, but I just wanted to devour this book. This book was so trauma-based but also so fun and flirty. I loved the romance between Jasper and Sloane and how Jasper didn’t want to cross the line, but also really wanted to cross the line. Sloane is just wanting some clear information and Jasper is just shutting down. I loved the Eaton family, if they would like to adopt me that would just be perfect because I loved the family dynamic and how they would all go to bat for them especially with Beau being missing, Cade being a new dad again and Rhett just winding everyone up. I love how they were all wanting to smack Jasper for taking so long to declare his feelings for Sloane, but then also winding them up that they were like cousins even though they weren’t. I loved that Sloane had a kick-ass development of not knowing whether to go back to the partner and keeping daddy happy to then be telling them to go and fuck themselves and that they are sly. I loved that chapter of her showing up like a boss ass bitch ready to take them down and then Jasper comes in as backup.

Winter finally grew on me, and I can’t wait for her to leave her husband for Theo, also can’t wait to see Beau’s story because we know exactly how that is going to go down. Half of this book was spent worrying about Beau and the road trip that I ended up skimming some of the chapters. I would have liked Beau’s storyline to come near the end, it should have been the main part of the story but Jasper growing a pair of balls.

I cannot wait for Beau’s and Theo’s books and hopefully I will get a favourite book from one of them soon.

HEHEHEHEHEHEH my favorite Elsie Silver book so far. I don't give out many 5 stars but honestly I have no faults with this book. Trope wise it's all my favorites naturally rolled into one. The characters were relatable and lovable with a lot of depth. Jasper is MY MAN I am obsessed with everything he is. Sloane is way too relatable and her growth over this novel warmed my heart.

Also can't help but love a man who gives clear directions LMAO

My summary:
When Sloane Winthrop’s entire life blows up moments before her wedding that she never wanted, all she wants to do is go to her uncle’s ranch. As a kid, the Eaton’s ranch was a safe haven during the summer away from her stuffy parents—and also where she spent time with Jasper Gervais, her childhood crush. Jasper escaped an awful home life when Beau Eaton took him home when they both were in high school. The Eatons raised Jasper just like he was one of the family. Now a big-time NHL goalie, Jasper has always stayed friends with Sloane, a prima ballerina at a big dance company in the same city. After Jasper busts Sloane out of her wedding and takes her to the ranch, they get the devastating news that Beau is missing in action from his special forces unit. Jasper and Sloane turn to each other to cope, as they always have—but this time they may finally be on the same page together with their feelings for each other.

My thoughts:
I just adore Elsie Silver’s writing style. It’s sassy and hilarious and tugs at the heartstrings and the characters are just perfect. I’ve really enjoyed the Chestnut Springs series so far and switching from cowboy romance to a bit of a hockey romance in the third book just works perfectly for me.

Jasper had me swooning in the first six pages. His story is so heartbreaking and redeeming at the same time. The scene with him and Harvey at the table with the news of Beau missing had me gutted. This book is much more sad and emotional than the others so far in the series. And Sloane’s support of Jasper ever since they were kids is, just, everything.

The slow-burn friends-to-lovers plot had me chomping at the bit for Jasper and Sloane to just make it happen already. But when it does finally happen, it does not disappoint!

Also, Sterling Woodcock?!? Excuse me while I die over Sloane’s douchebag fiancé’s name. And anytime I have to put a book down to Google a reference of a person, with the accurate premonition that I should use private browsing mode for said search, well, I was cackling as I found out who Peter North is (yeah—I’m clearly not Canadian).

I’m excited for Winter and Theo’s story in the next book. But, now, what I’m really here for is Beau’s story. I feel so invested in his outcome after his bit in this book.

Note: I’ve found myself really looking forward to the Harvey bonus scene at the end of each Bloom edition book. It is just a great little cherry on top at the end of each story.
