This was super whatever. I understand why they thought a choose your own adventure book would be fun but I don’t read these books for fun I read these books to explore feelings of survivors remorse and guilt over one’s role in an unwinnable guerilla war.

This was a silly little romp. Surprised I only had one death. Perfect quick read I needed on the holiday. Next Friday is another holiday so I’ll be diving into the other one of these. Curious where it takes place.

Unnecessary, generic choose your own adventure Animorphs. Turns out that in this alternate universe, you were also at the abandoned construction site and became an Animorph. The first half of the book covers the first original book, and the second half is a new adventure involving a Sario Rip.

This is a choose-your-own-adventure alternate universe where you were at the construction site in The Invasion. The only thing you actually chose is which animal to morph at which time, which I imagine simplifies the book for younger readers but it doesn't help someone older when a lot of the choices are nonsensical. There is only one correct option and the others lead to death 100% of the time. Even the "easy" morphs at the beginning. Every single wrong choice leads to death.

I'd also like to add that the way that you die after making the wrong morph choice is painfully arbitrary. Let's say that you have the options of morphing an owl, cat, or toad (hehe). The owl is the right choice. If you morph a cat you'll die because "You forgot about Mr. Henry's deadly cat allergy and the school janitor throws you out of a window in disgust." Except neither the allergy nor the janitor were mentioned before you made the choice.

It appears this book was written to show how difficult it is to make the snap judgements of the Animorphs. And a great job it does at that. Still, not exactly a fair or pleasant reading experience.

While younger me loved this book and kept rereading it for the challenge and to feel like I was a part of the team, it doesn't stand to any scrutiny.

Kinda nonsense and lousy with weird errors, but still pretty fun.

I first read this many years ago, and I liked it probably as much today as I did back then.
It's a simple thing but being able to choose which animal you want to morph into (even if the wrong choice gets you dead. A lot.) is a fun experience.

It's not canonical, of course, but it is interwoven with bits of the canon, which is satisfying when you know what's going on, but maybe just confusing if you don't. But I'd probably advise people to read the main series (at least) before looking at this and the second Alternamorphs anyway.

It was a quick read, but still a good one.

It was fun doing multiple times just to get the full story. A fun read.
