I was really amused by the first half of the book, then I was kind of put off by the rest because everything happened way too fast, conveniently and without much build-up.

5 years later the two are forced to work together when Gideons department needs a better assistant.

This was such a fantastic paranormal mystery. I'm not calling it a romance because there is very little focus on the romance sub-plot, and even that is kinda uninteresting. I would say Demons Do it Better is a paranormal fantasy with a mystery element that also happens to be spicy.

The intricate storyline of Sam's involvement in the Community of Species Government and a specialised task force there as a human is very exciting. I was never bored, and the story kept me on my toes.
I especially loved the interpretation of the supernatural world. Magic is not something used by others, but it is its own entity, deciding on who should be in charge and keeping the balance between humans and other species. So many species are involved in an urban fantasy kinda way. Vampires, demons, shifters, and others just roam between human unnoticed and living their sweet life.
All in all, the whole world is wonderfully constructed, if a bit less intricately depicted. A lot is left to the imagination.

The plot is so good. Action, conspiracy, mystery around who Sam really is. Awesome. I was really hooked from the beginning. I especially liked him discovering himself.

As I mentioned before, the romance is... well, it really isn't anything. Yeah, it was nice to have a little subplot, but I was not interested. Gideon had the potential to be this fantastic love interest, but he was just boring. Mostly because apart from him being an organizational freak, we got to know nothing... and I mean nothing about him.
If this book is marketed as romance, it's a false advertisement, and if you've come for that, please don't try.

But if you love action-packed urban fantasies with awesome characters and funny moments, this one's for you.

The author does one thing right every time, and that is the wonderful supporting characters. There's always a strong, caring found family with infinite support and quirky characters that you cannot help but love. And the humour. The funny scenes are to die for and I laugh out loud every time.

Joel Leslie's interpretation of the story in the audiobook is wonderful.

I'm staying for the plot. And going into the next books in the series, I'm letting go of my expectations of the romance plot.

Overall, a very entertaining read.

Everything begins with a human Sam who starts working for Lucifer and the Community of Species Government, during five years he has many encounters with Gideon, a demon with whom he had a one-night stand. It is only when he joined Gideon’s team that things start to move on between them, especially with the big case of kidnapping on their hands, and all the revelations that will follow. As part of Lucifer’s team, Gideon need to make sure that human doesn’t learn about the existence of the species - he has quite the reputation in the office, with his stern look and his death glare.

If you're a fan of Charlie Cochet and AJ Sherwood, you'll love this book. In my opinion, it's better than Cochet because the characters are mature adults, not pranking teenagers. Plus I find the main conspiracy here much tighter with less random characters and side stories, and definitely less Mary Sue tropes.

I haven't read and enjoyed a book like this in ages. The writing is fun and engaging, the characters appealing, the story is compelling, and yes, the heat level is all the chilli peppers!

This is my first book by this author and I'm now working on getting all of them.
