Giiiiiiiiiin! He's such a sociopath. He reminds me of a kid at my school, though that kid rarely smiles except with sarcasm, he still likes to see people make fools of themselves... >_> <__<

Question:
- How normal is it for Gin to have completely cut off Jidanbo's arm? They are both soul reapers, but also that's a captain cutting off the arm of a subordinate? Isn't there consequences? This is the first time I'm seeing the dichotomy of soul reapers as Rukia and even Jidanbo are so dramatically different than Gin, Byakuya, or even Renji initially. It also helps me see the growth Rukia had while in her gigai.

Notes and points of interest:
- The post-chapter illustration of Renji sneaking behind the wall and observing Gin push Ichigo away really adds context to the scene of Renji sharing "idle gossip" with Rukia. Seeing Rukia "have life" in her features with the glimmer of hope for Ichigo's survival added dimension to their dynamic.
- Kukaku Shiba and the Shiba family are so dynamic and exciting. Kukaku is the first character with a physical disability that I've seen drawn, She's such a dynamic boss and it's compelling to see her as the head of her family and as the fireworks expert to help the infiltrating group.

Overall Impression:
From the art to the beginnings of the Soul Society arc, Kubo does a really amazing job laying the framework for the Soul Society and its dynamics which was completely different than what I previously expected. Subtly getting to learn more about Orihime's powers to save an entirely severed arm to Chad's hope and wonder with Yuichi really stood out. I'm so excited to read more!

This was a fun first look at the Soul Society. I loved seeing these characters enter the Soul Society and begin to understand how this world/realm works. I liked seeing the outskirts of the Soul Society and beginning to understand what life might look like for those living there. I loved seeing Yūichi reunite with Chad, it felt unexpected and early, but I liked how that smaller filler-esque storyline came back and added to the bigger main storyline in a satisfying way. I liked the introduction of some major players in this volume and it was interesting seeing the early scenes of these characters knowing where they’ll eventually end up. It was interesting being introduced to key concepts and ideas in this volume, and I’m looking forward to seeing the payoff in the manga.
