Not a huge fan of nonfiction or biographies but this was an interesting read. Definitely worked hard to keep the message positive. Sometimes felt a little too much like a storybook ending setup.

“And to anyone who feels alone on their journey or in need of some company, come with me, I'll promise you'll not be walking alone. I'll buy you a dram at the end. Sláinte.”
I loved Sam’s story so much (and had no idea he was such a fantasy nerd - i love it). The way he does the comparisons between his life and his hikes, and talks about his struggles and highs - its a gorgeous book.
I listened to the audiobook of Waypoints and it felt like he was talking to a friend rather than reading off pages, and was connecting to the reader. Don’t be surprised if I reread this soon <3

I always do Sam’s books on Audible because…accent. Sam. But I’m glad I did with his memoir. Although I’m sure it was ghostwritten, the words and stories of Sam’s journey into acting and to fame were well told along parallel tracks of his West Highland journey. Love the theming. I enjoyed learning more about this actor I enjoy so much, from his sharing of his less-than-perfect childhood and how that impacts his relationships, to his amusement and fun with mushrooms on his journey. Everything I learn about Sam makes me appreciate his talents and the entertainment his work has provided. For me, it’s 5 stars but I understand if I’m biased.
As both a fan of Outlander and a hiker about to set out on the West Highland Way next month, I’m so glad I discovered this book before my journey. Equal parts inspiring and eye-opening, this book is a must-read for fans of the actor, memoir lovers, or nature and hiking enthusiasts.
Heughan takes the reader on parallel journeys through his life, his struggles, and his trek on the West Highland Way while each connects, intersects, and offers life lessons many will relate to. Heughan himself expertly narrates the audiobook which adds greatly to the experience.
I loved this book so much and hearing it directly from Sam’s own voice made it even more special. Sam took us on an adventure (“I’m going on an adventure!” – Bilbo Baggins) that, even with my lack of experience in long-distance hiking, made me want to strive to do something like that on my own. I’m so inspired by his openness and motivated by his words of always pushing forward to keep going. And I never thought I would belly laugh from a story like this one but Sam did so effortlessly. Would read again, 10/10.
I just love Scotland and outlander, so unfortunately I devoured this book
It can be difficult for someone with a colorful background to open up and be real about their upbringing and life, but Sam Heughen has done a wonderful job of releasing the burden of his past.
This was a wonderful story to read. Not only was the writing and story telling on point, but the realness from Heughen gave the book so much more emotion than just a book full of life experiences. He talks about his past, how he fell into acting and how he is dealing with life now.
I loved everything about this book. A great Sunday afternoon read.
